The Friary Hall
Originally built in 1937 as the Franciscan Friary Hall, this unassuming building in Peckham, South London, once played an invaluable role in the local community, hosting a wide range of events and groups. The hall stands adjacent to the magnificent Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, designed in the neo-Gothic style by E.W. Pugin.
A number of years ago the hall was forced to close, and in the absence of regular maintenance, it has since suffered from a range of structural and fabric-related defects. Although unlisted, the hall’s neo-Georgian façade and local significance make it an important part of the streetscape and worthy of preservation.
CCA were commissioned by the Norbertine Priory of Our Lady of Sorrows to undertake a feasibility study for the hall’s repair and refurbishment, with the aim of enhancing its functionality and flexibility, enabling it to support a broad range of community uses - including live events, rehearsals, workshops, charities, and support groups.
